Vision Statement

Whether your Strategic Plan is developed - OR - you're just getting started - start with your VISION for the future. This mental framework helps give form to the ambiguity of what lies ahead for your business. Without a clear and compelling Vision to guide the actions of all employees, you may end up with a workforce lacking direction and unable to deliver on any strategy that you develop and attempt to implement.

Mission Statement

Once you've developed your Vision Statement, begin to develop your Mission Statement. Your Mission Statement specifies your businesses "reason for being". If you add up all the overarching strategic objectives and key initiatives and put them together, your Mission Statement should reflect all these objectives and initiatives because they are your purpose. Your reason for being. Your MISSION is something to be accomplished, not to be confused with your Vision Statement, which is something to be pursued. You need both.

Core Values Statement

While most businesses have a better understanding of their Vision and Mission, they aren’t quite as familiar with Core Values. If I was to ask you now to recite the Core Values for your business, could you? Chances are you would be able to speak about your Vision and Mission with greater familiarity, but your core values, or how you behave as an organization, may be a bit more challenging to articulate. Yet, your core values can be a key differentiator and help set you far apart from your competition.

Value Proposition

Your value to your customers is a critical component of your business strategy. And for many businesses, it’s a challenge to invest in the development of new products and services while simultaneously finding new markets – new customers – for your existing products and services. We share three quick tips to help you understand how to identify where you should stop investing, where you should start investing, and what you need to do to build the capability to innovate.

The Research Bridge: Market Segmentation Matrix

Market segmentation is critical to develop a strategic business plan that gives your customers what they need. Take the time and effort to segment your target audience based on demographic, psychographic, geographic and behavioral research variables, needs and personas, and you'll begin to see what is important to your customers, and what is not.

Performance Management Scorecard

The Performance Management Scorecard is a critical component of the Strategic Planning process. Without it, you won’t have clarity about the key initiatives you need to fund and implement to achieve your goals. Many business owners and leaders believe planning from a Financial Perspective is critical to success. And, it is. But AS critical is the necessity to plan from a Customer Perspective, an Internal Process and Operations Perspective, and an Employee Perspective.
